The 5th semester project was about extension and renovating the existing building from 1921: a 4 storey building ( plus basement) with dormers located in J.M.Mørksgade 9, Aarhus.

I had to analyze the existing building and then start fulfilling the client’s requirements. One of them was to provide a new bathroom and kitchen for each apartment. That meant that I had to demolish a part of the building and put new steel construction in there with a lightweight insulated wall. I had 4 outline proposal options, which I could choose for design. Another client’s wish was to close the back stairs and install elevator, and put new stairs going to the basement, so that residents have an internal access opportunity to go to the basement and to the courtyard without going outside. Another client’s wish was to put airlock in the basement and replace the windows for Dannebrogtype windows with the same breakdowns as the existing one.

Building should fulfill low energy class 2015 in BR10.
